The Competition Commission opposed the fixing of sugar price by the Punjab government

LAHORE: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has sent a policy note to the Punjab government on setting sugar prices in Punjab. The CCP said that the price of sugar in Punjab is Rs 85 per kg. Consumers will face more difficulties if fixed. The federal government has calculated the price of ex-factory sugar at Rs 80 per kg. There is no fixed price of sugar in other provinces of the country. The sale will take place, the CCP said

Due to this, there is a danger of artificial shortage of sugar in Punjab. Instead of fixing prices, more investment opportunities should be created through free trade. Emphasis should be laid on increasing local production including competition in the sugar industry.
